5 tips how to clean the garbage disposal

Cleaning your garbage disposal is an easy task that can be done with simple household items and a little bit of effort. In this article, we’ll explore five essential tips to help you keep your garbage disposal clean and odor-free.

How to Clean a Garbage Disposal the Easy Way:

  1. Use ice cubes and salt: Put a handful of ice cubes and a tablespoon of coarse salt into the garbage disposal. Turn on the disposal and let it run for a few seconds. The ice will help to dislodge any buildup while the salt helps to scrub the blades and remove odors.
  1. Citrus fruits: Cut up some citrus fruits like lemons, limes, or oranges into small pieces and put them in the disposal. Run the disposal with cold water for a few seconds. The citrus oils will help to clean and deodorize the disposal.
  1. Vinegar and baking soda: Pour half a cup of baking soda into the disposal followed by one cup of vinegar. Let the mixture fizz for a few minutes. Then, pour boiling water down the disposal to flush out the loosened debris. This combination helps to break down grease and eliminate odors.
  1. Clean the rubber splash guard: Lift the rubber splash guard and clean both sides with a sponge or brush and warm, soapy water. Food particles and grease can accumulate on this part, leading to unpleasant odors.
